Day 2- Touring around campus, Free and Easy

Hi everyone, today, we had to gather with the others at the first level of our hostel at 9.30am . It's freezing cold today. The minimum temperature was as low as -3 degree. I looked out outside the window after I got prepared and saw people carrying umbrellas on the road side. It's drizzling. Today, it had been drizzling almost all day long.

Our first photo of the day; freezing cold.

It is a wet day and everyone of us decided to wear warmer clothes to prevent us from the chilling coldness and wind.
All three of us ate raisins bread that I've brought from Singapore due to the lack of time and the unfamiliarity of the school campus.

While waiting, Si Hao gave out the cards for buying food and beverages in the canteen and we were told of the information of it is to be used.
Thereafter, our orientation around the campus began with a local lecturer introducing the campus locations.

Everyone of us brought umbrella around the campus.

We were introduced to the two canteens, our classroom block and level that we will be studying for the next few weeks and also the school's clinic.

The classroom:

Ms Wong Wai Har was there too.In the staffroom with S02.
With my group mates; Jean, Fathullah, TeeLi.

The drizzling made everyone carry an umbrella for shelter.

The school's clinic:

After touring orientation, we came across this beautiful scene that looks like one of those that appears in Korean dramas during Spring or so.

This picture was helped taken by a student passing back.

We had our lunch at one of the canteen. The price of the food are relatively cheap like a bowl of rice for 0.20yuan, fried rice for 2.5yuan, bubble tea at 2yuan as compared to what we usually buy in the canteens at Ngee Ann Poly. We had dumplings, noodles, fried egg rice and original milk tea. It was rather a high technology experience when buying food in the canteen as we are using a top-value card. Order what we want, tap the card and get ready to collect our food.

After lunch, in a group of nine, and based our familiarity, we walked around outside the school campus, exploring the streets.

Police alarm found in the middle streets.
I felt that this alarm was rather interesting as with just a press, anyone along the road that needs help can get an immediate response from the police. It is important to have high responsiveness and efficiency to overcome problem as soon as possible.
No honking sign on the road.

I noticed that this implementation of sign had caused a reduced volume of honking by the drivers on the road.

We met some of our student leaders at 4pm at our hostel's lobby and set off for dinner. We had dinner at a restaurant 秦风酒店 with the 5 other student leaders where we walked a short distance from the campus. Had a 12 course meal there. I could say that the food is not exactly very bad but that we were just not used to the volume of salt and oil they used in the food. Along the 42 days in Wuhan, I am sure that we will adapt to their eating culture eventually. As a basic courtesy, we decided to treat them for dinner.

The menu; we took a long time to order that the waitress is quite pissed off.

The leaders that helped us decide what to order.

It is quite different here as in Singapore, customer is always on the right side and that they are treated very nicely. However, at here, the waitresses could show their unsatisfied attitude directly about you.

We had our cheers together; but not a yum-seng one.

Dividing into groups of 4, we took a cab from the restaurant to the nearest shopping mall which cost us 12.20yuan. However, the student leader volunteered and pay for our fares. Thank you so much :D.
After which, we decided to go to the arcade and shopped around the mall instead of singing songs due to the time constrain of checking into the hostel on time.

Everyone of us paid 10yuan for the bumper car ride including the student leaders. All 14 of us went in to play at the same time. Had lots of fun in the arcade with other games. We spent the rest of the time there. Bumper car ride.

Cab back down to the hostel again.

Reflection:
We should learn to appreciate and experience what we have in this learning immersion programme. Such facilities like having to buy our food with such high technology, cheap price and edible conditions and having a clinic right at the footsteps of the students.
We have confidence in our future.
I am sure that if Singapore is willing to have this type of system for canteens in all schools, we will be able to catch up with the advances nowadays and that have it as a competitive advantage to attract more foreign students to the local schools besides the high standard of education limit. We as the representatives of the MDE OIP can also relate what we have seen during our journey and that in future, could make useful feed backs to the society.
